About the bank mBank

mBank was founded in 1986 as Bank Rozwoju Eksportu (BRE Bank) and launched the first fully online retail bank in Poland in 2000, under the mBank brand. In 2013 the whole group adopted the mBank name. Thanks to mBank, Polish customers first massively embraced online banking — no branches, no paperwork, with a free account and instant transfers.

Today mBank serves over 5.7 million customers in Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. The bank offers eKonto personal accounts, cash loans from 9.9% APR, mortgages with temporarily fixed rates, savings accounts, deposits and full business banking. The mBank mobile app is regularly recognised in international rankings as one of the best in Europe. mBank is a member of BFG and is supervised by KNF.

mBank's brand recognition extends well beyond Poland — the bank operates retail subsidiaries in Czechia and Slovakia, and its English-language mobile app and web banking are widely used by Polish residents in the eurozone and the United Kingdom. For Polish citizens working abroad, mBank offers a familiar interface, BLIK support, low-friction onboarding via mObywatel for those with a Polish digital identity, and a documented track record of EUR and GBP transfer corridors. EU residence documents are accepted in the verification flow alongside Polish ID.

For Polish citizens earning income in EUR, GBP, CHF or other EU-zone currencies, mBank accepts foreign-currency income in mortgage creditworthiness calculations — making Polish-property mortgage origination feasible while working in Germany, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands or other EU countries. Documented employment contracts, foreign tax returns and 12–24 months of bank statements are typically required. SEPA Credit Transfer to and from German, French, Dutch and Irish banks is processed same-day; SEPA Instant is available on supported corridors.

Compared with fintech alternatives like Revolut or Wise, mBank serves a different role: a full Polish banking relationship with BIK credit history that other Polish banks recognise, Polish-denominated mortgages on Polish property, integration with Urząd Skarbowy and ZUS for tax and social-security remittance from abroad, and access to KNF-regulated lending at scale. Cross-border Polish residents commonly hold both — mBank for Polish-domestic finance, a fintech account for daily multi-currency spending in the eurozone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is mBank safe?

Yes. mBank is supervised by KNF and is a member of the Bank Guarantee Fund (BFG), which insures deposits up to EUR 100,000 per customer. The bank is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and publishes regulated financial results.

Can I open an mBank account from abroad?

Yes. mBank accepts remote account opening via mObywatel for Polish citizens with a digital identity, and via selfie verification + verification transfer for others. The mobile app and web banking provide a full English interface, making it practical for Polish residents in Germany, the UK, Ireland and other EU countries. EU residence documents are accepted alongside Polish ID. International card delivery is available on request.

Is the mBank mobile app available in English?

Yes. mBank's mobile app and web banking offer a full English interface alongside Polish, German and Czech. All major features — transfers, BLIK, currency exchange, card management, motorway and parking payments — are available in English. Customer service handles English inquiries by phone and chat during Polish business hours.

Does mBank support SEPA transfers to Germany and the UK?

Yes. mBank participates in SEPA Credit Transfer for euro-denominated transfers within the eurozone (Germany, France, Netherlands, etc.) and the wider EEA. SEPA Instant is available on selected corridors. Outgoing transfers from a PLN account incur FX to EUR at mBank's daily spread — competitive against Polish banks though wider than dedicated FX fintechs.

mBank vs Revolut for cross-border banking?

They serve different roles. Use Revolut (or Wise, N26) for daily multi-currency spending and frequent EUR/PLN switching at tight spreads. Use mBank for a Polish banking relationship: BIK credit history, Polish mortgages, ZUS and Urząd Skarbowy integration, and KNF-regulated lending. Many Polish residents abroad hold both.

Can I get a Polish mortgage from mBank while living in Germany or the UK?

Yes. mBank accepts foreign-currency income (EUR, GBP, CHF) in mortgage creditworthiness calculations. Polish citizens earning in Germany, the UK, Ireland or the Netherlands commonly use mBank for property purchases in Poland, with documented employment contracts, foreign tax returns and 12–24 months of bank statements. Loan-to-value, Recommendation S and DTI thresholds apply.

How much does eKonto at mBank cost?

eKonto Możliwości is free when you make at least one card transaction per month. eKonto M for customers under 26 is completely free with no conditions. Withdrawals from mBank and Euronet ATMs are also free.

How do I get a cash loan at mBank?

If you are an mBank customer, you can get a cash loan online in the app or web banking — many customers have a pre-approved offer with a 30-second decision. New customers submit the application online and typically receive a decision within hours.

What is the maximum cash loan amount at mBank?

mBank offers cash loans up to PLN 200,000 for customers with sufficient creditworthiness. The repayment period can reach 120 months. The exact amount depends on your income, BIK history and internal scoring.

Does mBank offer mortgages with fixed rates?

Yes. mBank offers mortgages with temporarily fixed interest rates (usually for 5 years), protecting you from WIBOR volatility. After the fixed period the loan switches to a variable rate or can be fixed again.

What are mBank deposit rates?

mBank offers standard deposits and periodic promotions for new money. Current deposit rates are available in our deposit ranking — data is refreshed from bank APIs and reflects the real offer.
