Where to Get 6% on Your Savings in Poland (August 2026)
As of August 6, 2026, the best widely available rate on zloty savings in Poland is 6% per year: at VeloBank (savings account and 6-month deposit, both up to 50,000 PLN, extended until September 16) and at Alior Bank (up to 50,000 PLN for 3 months). BOS Bank pays 7.0%, but only up to 15,000 PLN and only until August 31. Nest Bank offers 6.1% for 6 months on amounts of 1,000-25,000 PLN. All of these are new-client promotions with activity conditions. For comparison, the NBP reference rate is 3.75%.
Polish banks are competing for new customers with savings promotions that pay well above the central bank rate. As of August 6, 2026, several banks offer 6% or more on zloty savings, but every offer comes with amount caps, deadlines and activity conditions. Here is what a foreigner living in Poland needs to know to capture the best rate.
Why Polish banks pay 6% when the central bank rate is 3.75%
Poland's central bank, Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP), sets interest rates through its Monetary Policy Council, known by the Polish acronym RPP. At its meeting on July 7-8, 2026 the RPP left rates unchanged: the reference rate stands at 3.75%, the lombard rate at 4.25% and the deposit rate at 3.25%. Any savings offer paying 6% therefore sits a full 2.25 percentage points above the reference rate.
Banks are not being generous. They pay above the market to win new customers, which is why every top rate in this article is a short-term promotion: capped in amount, limited in time and tied to conditions such as opening a personal account or using a card every month. Once the promotional period ends, your money drops to a standard rate that can be roughly half the headline figure.
The window is also cooling slightly. The Bankowe ABC index, which averages the best deposit offers on the market, slipped from 5.65% in July to 5.61% in August 2026. That is not a collapse, but it suggests the current crop of 6% offers is close to the ceiling rather than the start of a bidding war.
The best savings rates in Poland: August 2026 overview
The freshest move came on August 6, 2026, when VeloBank once again extended its two flagship 6% promotions, this time until September 16, 2026. A week earlier, on July 31, Alior Bank raised its Konto Oszczednosciowe na Start from 5% to 6%, while quietly cutting the promotional cap from 200,000 PLN to 50,000 PLN. Here is how the leading offers compare.
| Bank and product | Annual rate | Amount limit | Period | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BOS Bank, Cyfrowy Zysk account | 7.0% | up to 15,000 PLN | promo until Aug 31, 2026 | new clients, account opened via the mobile app |
| Nest Bank, Nest Lokata Witaj | 6.1% | 1,000-25,000 PLN | 6 months | new clients, deposit set up within 30 days of opening Nest Konto |
| VeloBank, Elastyczne Konto Oszczednosciowe | 6.00% | up to 50,000 PLN | 3 months | new clients, personal account plus 5 card or BLIK payments a month |
| VeloBank, VeloLokata dla Aktywnych | 6% | up to 50,000 PLN | 6 months | new clients, 2,000 PLN monthly inflows, marketing consents |
| Alior Bank, Konto Oszczednosciowe na Start | 6% | up to 50,000 PLN | 3 months | account opened Jul 31 to Sep 7, min. 500 PLN card or BLIK spend a month, marketing consents |
| Raiffeisen Digital Bank, welcome deposit | 5.5% | up to 100,000 PLN | 3 months | new clients; Austrian deposit guarantee, not the Polish BFG |
| Erste Bank Polska, Lokata na powitanie | 4.5% | up to 50,000 PLN | 3 months | for customers opening a personal account |
Two more data points round out the picture. Bankier.pl also lists CA Auto Bank at 4.70% on a savings account, and Erste Bank Polska in the table above is the former Santander Bank Polska, so do not be confused if you still see the old name in some apps. The small print: what the conditions mean for a foreigner
Every offer above targets new clients, and in practice you cannot grab just the savings product: the banks require you to open a personal account (Polish: ROR) alongside it. Then come the activity conditions. VeloBank asks for at least 5 card or BLIK payments a month on its savings account, Alior wants at least 500 PLN of monthly card or BLIK spending, and the VeloLokata requires inflows of at least 2,000 PLN in every full month of the deposit. Alior and the VeloLokata also require you to keep marketing consents active for the whole promotional period. If your salary lands in another bank, redirecting part of it is effectively the price of the rate.
Miss a condition or wait out the promotion and the fallback is stark. VeloBank's unconditional Lokata na Nowe Srodki pays 3.00% for 2 months, 3.20% for 3 months and 3.40% for 6 months, roughly half the promotional rate. On the Elastyczne Konto Oszczednosciowe, any balance above the 50,000 PLN tier earns 4.00%, up to 400,000 PLN.
Two things every expat should know before comparing net returns. First, interest in Poland is quoted gross: the bank automatically withholds the Polish levy on interest income, known as the Belka tax, so what reaches your account is lower than the headline rate, and you do not file anything yourself for bank interest. Second, deposits at banks operating under a Polish licence are protected by the Bankowy Fundusz Gwarancyjny (BFG), Poland's deposit guarantee scheme, regardless of your citizenship. Raiffeisen Digital Bank is the exception on this list: it operates on an Austrian licence, so your money there is covered by the Austrian guarantee scheme instead.
How to capture 6% before the deadlines pass
Match the offer to the amount you actually hold. Below 15,000 PLN, BOS Bank's 7.0% Cyfrowy Zysk is the top rate, but you must open the account through the mobile app and August is the last month of the promotion. Up to 25,000 PLN, Nest Bank's 6.1% for 6 months is the longest-lasting top rate on the market. Up to 50,000 PLN, VeloBank and Alior both pay 6%. Above that, Raiffeisen Digital Bank takes up to 100,000 PLN at 5.5% in one place, and VeloBank's 4.00% surplus tier absorbs balances up to 400,000 PLN.
The calendar matters. BOS Bank's promotion runs only until August 31, 2026. Alior's account-opening window closes on September 7. VeloBank's extension runs to September 16. Everything in this article reflects the state of play on August 6, 2026: promotional deposits in Poland change from month to month, and any of these offers can be withdrawn or repriced earlier.
If your horizon is shorter than a deposit term, or your money sits in euros or dollars rather than zloty, see our guides to short-term savings in Poland and EUR and USD currency accounts. Rotating between new-client promotions every few months is legal and common in Poland; the cost is admin time, not risk, as long as you stay within guarantee coverage and read each bank's terms document (regulamin) before signing.

People also ask
Why do Polish banks pay more than the central bank rate?
They are buying new customers. With the NBP reference rate at 3.75%, a 6% promotion costs the bank money up front, which is why these offers are capped at 15,000-50,000 PLN, limited to 3-6 months and tied to conditions that turn a saver into an active client.
Are savings rates in Poland going up or down?
Slightly down. The Bankowe ABC index of the best deposit offers fell from 5.65% in July to 5.61% in August 2026, while the RPP left the NBP reference rate unchanged at 3.75% at its July 7-8 meeting.
Can I keep the 6% rate after the promotional period ends?
No. The promotional rates run for 3-6 months. Afterwards balances earn standard rates, such as VeloBank's 3.00-3.40% on its unconditional deposit. Savers who want to stay near 6% typically move on to another bank's new-client offer.
Which Polish bank has the best 6-month deposit right now?
Nest Bank's Nest Lokata Witaj at 6.1% on 1,000-25,000 PLN, followed by VeloBank's VeloLokata dla Aktywnych at 6% on up to 50,000 PLN, which additionally requires 2,000 PLN of monthly inflows to your account.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the highest savings rate in Poland in August 2026?
Nominally 7.0% at BOS Bank on the Cyfrowy Zysk account, but only up to 15,000 PLN, only for new clients opening the account via the mobile app, and only until August 31, 2026. The best widely available rates are 6-6.1% at VeloBank, Alior Bank and Nest Bank.
Do I need to open a Polish personal account to get these rates?
Yes. Every top offer is tied to opening a personal account (ROR) as a new client. Most also require monthly activity: VeloBank wants 5 card or BLIK payments, Alior at least 500 PLN of card spending, and the VeloLokata requires 2,000 PLN of monthly inflows.
Is the 6% rate annual or for the whole promotional period?
Annual. A 6% rate on a 3-month promotion means your money earns interest at a 6% yearly pace only during those 3 months. Afterwards the balance drops to the bank's standard rate, for example VeloBank's unconditional deposit at 3.00-3.40%.
Is my money safe in Polish banks as a foreigner?
Deposits at banks operating under a Polish licence are protected by the Bankowy Fundusz Gwarancyjny (BFG), the Polish deposit guarantee scheme, regardless of your citizenship. Raiffeisen Digital Bank is the exception on this list: it is covered by the Austrian scheme instead of the BFG.
What is the Belka tax?
It is the Polish tax on interest and capital gains. The bank withholds it automatically before crediting interest to your account, so your net return is lower than the quoted gross rate, and you do not need to file a separate tax return for bank interest.
What are my options for amounts above 50,000 PLN?
Raiffeisen Digital Bank pays 5.5% on up to 100,000 PLN. At VeloBank, the balance above the 50,000 PLN promotional tier still earns 4.00%, up to 400,000 PLN. You can also split savings across several banks to stay within promotional caps and deposit guarantee coverage.
