Credit card categories

What to look for when choosing a card?

Annual fee — many banks offer cards for PLN 0 provided you make a minimum number of monthly transactions. Check the fee waiver conditions.

Interest-free period — the longer, the more time to repay without interest. The best cards offer up to 58 days.

Cashback — a refund of part of your spending (0.5–2%). With regular purchases of PLN 3,000 per month, 2% cashback gives PLN 720 per year.

Additional benefits — premium cards often include travel insurance, airport lounge access or a concierge service.

Często zadawane pytania

How does a credit card differ from a debit card?

A debit card uses funds from your bank account, while a credit card uses a limit granted by the bank. With a credit card you pay with borrowed money that must be repaid by a set date — ideally within the interest-free period.

How much does a credit card cost?

Many credit cards are free (PLN 0 per year) provided you make a minimum number of transactions. Premium cards cost between PLN 50 and PLN 300 per year but offer extra benefits such as insurance or higher cashback.

What is the interest-free period?

The interest-free period is the time (usually 54–58 days) during which you pay no interest on credit card purchases. If you repay the full balance before it ends, you use the bank's money for free.

Does a credit card affect creditworthiness?

Yes. The credit limit itself reduces your creditworthiness even if you do not use it. Banks treat an assigned limit as a potential liability. Timely repayments build a positive credit history in BIK.

How do I choose the best credit card?

Pay attention to: annual fee, length of the interest-free period, cashback rate, limits and additional benefits. If you repay on time, look for the card with the highest cashback and zero annual fee.
